Steve's affiliate links

I set up links on Amazon and a few other sites with the attempt to generate a few dollars of income. So far it's not really generating very much, under a buck in the last year or two. But that doesn't mean give up.

Some sites offer customers referral commissions. I'm going to put a few of the referral links in this blog post, maybe you will benefit from their offers.

Thank you 3.3 million followers!

Imagine 3.3 million people! Where do I start?  Who knew where it would lead when I started blogging on occasion? Some of the topics I blog about have been spun off onto their own blogs. The very popular bloggers get millions of followers, one day I may generate those numbers but not yet.

When I saw some famous Instagram or Tic-Tok blogger mentioned on the news, and the number of people checking out their content it got me curious and I went to check the stats on my own blogs. Nope, not millions but it's cool to see there are a few of my blogs getting traffic. I think it's great a few dozen of you reading the content I publish on my blogs. Remember if it's interesting, entertaining or you just like something, reblog, share, like, follow, etc.  Next stop a thousand visitors a day. Check out a few of my blog sites:

Thanks for using my Amazon Affiliate links in 2020

Thank you all who used my Amazon Affiliate links when shopping on Amazon in 2020!

Why clutter pages with ads?  I have some ads on the sites to earn enough to cover operating expenses.  I don't expect to earn enough to pay off  the mortgage, but one never knows. 2021 could be my year to bring in the big bucks (lol).  I have to believe.

This year my Amazon Associate account earned me 75¢. I will apply the bounty to domain registration fees.  Sales via affiliate links dropped about 90% from the 2019 when 8 sales brought in $7.07.

Uh Oh! Your Content Is Not Available Error

What's up with Facebook’s Content Is Not Available message?

I'm sure you've seen this, you're scrolling down the timeline or in a group and see a big message that says, "Content is not available right now."

Maybe this will help you figure out what's going on.

I'll start with the obvious tech support type question, "Is your computer on?" Oh wait, obviously the computer is on or you wouldn't get to the Facebook website :)

Okay step 2, are you using someone else's computer or are you logged in as someone else? Make sure you are logged into Facebook with your own ID.

Seems the most common reason this message appears is the Privacy Settings. When someone creates a post on Facebook, there are settings that let the content be seen only by who they decide. Like only let a specific group of friends see those beach photos; all your friends can see the blind date post except the blind date's friends; only a few specific people who you are close with with can see your medical update. If you originally posted the message, try to edit the privacy settings of the post or media and see if that helps.

The person changed their mind and deleted the original content but before it was deleted someone managed to share it. This happens more than you might think.

Are you blocked? When a user blocks you and a mutual friend shares their content it may be possible to see the message. Usually when someone blocks you, their profile, and status updates are hidden but we're dealing with computers and they can always get buggy.

It's also possible Facebook removed the original post for various reasons or the user's account was closed.

Are you social on social media?

Any of this sound familiar? Do you take surveys about coffee, retirement towns or birthdays? Do you know your forever drinking twin and the warning sign of your hometown?

And do you Share, Copy, Paste, Repost, Recommend your business associates, friends and family to others?

I originally posted this in the comments of a Facebook posting and decided to bring it to here to the 'Steve Miami' blog for additional exposure. Some of you may be aware that I bought a franchise and now book group travel, cruises, all inclusive resorts, etc.. Please consider me when planing your Cruise, vacation to Sandals, or booking a private tour. I'm building up my business and appreciate your support by telling others about my business. The franchise is called -------- and my website is #.
So are you a social media ninja? Quick to share a funny picture. First to answer a crazy survey? You know the people, they're totally networked. They photograph all their meals. Spend a lot of time taking surveys about silly things (also called 'click bait' designed to collect demographics for marketing). They make an effort to search for that perfect MEME or emoji to post. They watch and like all sorts of very cute animal videos, for hours on end. That's why I thought what a great way for friends helping friends using social networking tools that they already love to use (think of that old commercial, "she told two friends, who told two friends and so on and so on"). I apologize for the going off on a tangent, I'm really more curious about the psychology of social media than posting a rant.

My experience of friends clicking my links or shopping on my amazon links or reposting information hasn't had positive results. The friends still post food and pet pictures, search for memes and take surveys but when asked, they rarely post or share something. My requests are usually ignored.
If you can 'copy' and 'paste' a website address (URL) onto your own timeline, in a group, on a message board or in a tweet-you are helping your friends more than you may realize. Word of mouth is a great way to promote something.

Hey I already know that you have an extra 60 seconds or you wouldn't be reading this.
And if you happen to have 2 minutes to spare, a review and some stars on FBwould be great!

Thank you all!

Black Friday - Cyber Monday sales and deals

Attention shoppers Black Friday is here! And here comes another Cyber Monday!

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, was regarded as the first day of the traditional Christmas shopping season, on which retailers offer special reduced prices. In the past few years websites begin offering their deals weeks before Black Friday which sort of takes the hype out of Cyber Monday--created by marketing companies to persuade people to shop online. Jump in a search engine and look for "black friday deals" they are all up and running.

And check out Amazon for a load of early sneak peak deals.

How NOT to shoot video on your cell phone

Everyone is suddenly a videographer with the millions of iPhone and Android users. The ugly proof is visible on sites like YouTube. Any time something happens or a band takes the stage, up go the phones and content is created. Bad content. Shot Poorly. But that has little impact on the numbers.  Thousands, sometimes a million views of bad video.

I'm not here to say stop capturing events, keep recording. Just listen to a few real quick tips and maybe the world will have a few minutes of better content streaming around it.

  1. Let your clips record at least 10 seconds
  2. Hold the camera horizontally
  3. Use a steady hand or tripod
  4. If you pan (move camera side to side) do it slowly and hold the shot for 4 seconds after the pan
  5. If you tilt (up or down) follow the same rule of slow titlt and hold your shot after the tilt
  6. A smooth zoom is sometimes difficult on a cell phone so avoid zooms entirely

Facebook Like Overload

I just noticed a jobs section on Facebook. Not sure how long it's been there but it seems to be something new. I'm not too excited about the thought of a social media site where the norm is rant, whine, repost silly photos and say happy birthday to strangers suddenly being mashed up with career data. Just as I say not to turn LinkedIn into Facebook, on the flip-side don't turn Facebook into LinkedIn.  I'm not sure my future employer is interested in what I ate for dinner last night or that I took a walk in Central Park on Saturday.

How effective would a job posting be on Facebook? The site has been saturated with quizzes, politics, photos and chain letter type postings asking for 'likes' and 'shares'.  Due to the magnitude of trivial content being shared, I usually ignore whatever is in my newsfeed which would include missing out on job potential.

That brings me over to LinkedIn where I tend to scroll through what my business associates are reading.  I reliably find great industry articles this way.

So a few weeks back, just as a social experiment, I posted on LinkedIn that my new blog is up.  Well I've posted, shared and liked on social media outlets over the years but have never experienced a response like I have received on LinkedIn.

On Facebook, with their very active membership, the window of opportunity for interaction is so narrow that friends don't get notified. I'm happy if anyone likes or shares my Facebook content.

I was surprised that the article I posted on LinkedIn had immediate response and by the end of the day over 100 views, and people are still reading it weeks later. And recruiters are contacting me about job opportunities.

It's great that a social media site is mastering their niche instead of trying to be all things to all people.

I just hope the content on LinkedIn continues to be about careers and industry news and everyone saves their silly surveys, food  and cute pet photos for Facebook.

Post an article about your industry, a career tip or job opening on LinkedIn because there are business associates ready to view your story.

Are we Friends on Frappr?

So Wendy just sent me an email about adding a friend on a site called Frappr. The website sounded familiar but it has been a while since I used Frappr... in fact I couldn't remember it was a social map network. So I logged in and while I'm there why not share my friends map. Do you feel out? Add yourself to the map.

How to know if a shy guy likes you without talking

Is he really just shy?

An excerpt from Traci Brown, Body language expert:
Most of our communication happens non-verbally, without talking. So watching your shy guy will tell you more than his words ever will.
If he makes eye contact with you just immediately before he steps out of a room, even when he’s with his buddies or co-workers, it’s a sure sign he’s interested in you.
When you catch him starting at you from across the room and he looks away the instant you catch him, he’s probably into you. Science has proven that it’s not the length of his stare that indicates his level of interest; it’s the frequency of his stares. So if you catch him more than a few times, it’s a dead giveaway that you’re irresistible to him...
